Thomas Keyhill 'Tom' Cheek (March 24, 1923 ~ May 27, 1980) 24 March 1923 — 27 May 1980 *** NAVY VETERAN WORLD WAR II Thomas Cheek News has been received here of the death of a former Joplin resident, Thomas Keyhill Cheek, 57, Dallas, Texas, who died Tuesday of an apparent heart attack while traveling near Oberlin, Indiana. Mr. Cheek was born March 24, 1923 in Joplin [Jasper County, MO]. He moved to Dallas in 1951. He was a graduate of Joplin High School and attended Joplin Junior College. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, and a veteran of World War II, serving with the Navy. He worked in construction with the Sherwin Williams Company, Dallas. Survivors include his wife, Allyne, of the home; two sons, Thomas L. Cheek and Tim Cheek, both of Dallas: one daughter, Mrs. Judy Zabonik, Waxahacie [Waxahachie], Texas; his father, Thomas L. Cheek, 801 Empire Ave., Joplin [Jasper Co.]; one brother, John Cheek, Long Island, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Rosemary Prewett, Minneapolis, Minn.; and six grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Pius Catholic Church in Dallas. Burial will be under direction of Restland Funeral Home of Dallas.
