KEARNEY — Jean L. Newland, 83, of Kearney died Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, at Mount Carmel Home Keens Memorial. A celebration of life will be scheduled for next summer. O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Jean was born Jan. 22, 1933, to Garrett W. and Gladys L. Lysinger in Sargent. She was formerly married to Jack Newland and they made their home in Ord. The family of Jean Newland mourn the loss of our beloved sister and mother. Jean was a pillar in our family, and she will be greatly missed. She provided a place of respite for four sisters and their families as they have met through the years to bonds of love and friendship. She worked for more than 37 years as a medical technician, first at Valley County Hospital in Ord and then at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. She was a loving mother, an amazing cook, and enjoyed reading and attending concerts and plays. She never missed an episode of “Jeopardy!” and she could answer many of the questions. She is survived by her daughter, Lyn House of Kearney; sisters, June Hendrickson of Omaha, Nancy Fleming and her husband, Merle, of Boise, Idaho, Julie Lysinger of Austin, Texas, and Susan Anderson and her husband, David, of Bismarck, N.D.; and many nieces and nephews and their children.
