Eleanor Martens, 91, of Grand Island died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 at Tiffany Square Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2016 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park. Father Martin Egging will be officiating. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Eleanor was born on November 19, 1924 in Brainard, Neb., to Ivan and Antonette (Vrbka) Toman. She received her education in Westphalia, Kan. She was united in marriage to Delbert Martens on February 20, 1946 in Topeka, Kan. The couple lived in Seward and Grand Island. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Arlene Martens of Grand Island; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Arnold Weekley of Blaine, Minn.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Beatrice Parsons of Sumter, S.C. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert; parents, Ivan and Antonette Toman; sister, Alice Karpisek; and brother, Edwin Toman.
