The Weatherford News, September 2, 1943 Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for Luther F. Melton, 68, long-time resident of Colony, who died Monday evening in the Clinton hospital. Services were conducted at the Mission church in Colony with Rev. Buckley Rude and Rev. Horace Patton, officiating. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery in Weatherford. He was born in Athens, Tenn., March 1, 1875. For many years he operated a garage in Colony and then moved to Weatherford. He returned to Colony several years ago. Surviving him are his wife, who is postmistress at Colony, and two daughters; Mrs. R. P. Brown and Mrs. Charles Bacon, both of Colony; hi mother, Mrs. Rachel Melton, Athens, Tenn; four brothers, Horace Melton, Friona, Texas, Henderson Melton, Celina, Texas; Charley Melton, Sweetwater, Texas, Chester Melton, Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs. R. E. McMurray, Athens, Tenn., Mrs. B.B. Cherry, Midlothian, Texas and Mrs. Luther Clark, Abilene, Texas; three step brothers, Marshall, Herschel and Leigh, all of Riceville, Tenn.
