Berend Van Horn, born July 20, 1896 in Nieuw Beerta, Groningen, Netherlands; died November 8, 1961 in Charles City, Floyd, Iowa; married Lola Belle Woodley February 22, 1922 in Hansell, Franklin, Iowa; born July 6, 1897 in Hansell, Iowa; died September 26, 1976 in Minneapolis, Hennipin County, Minnesota. Notes for Berend Van Horn: Lived in Greene, Iowa in 1925. He lived at 1207 Gilbert Street, Charles City, Iowa. Died of a heart attack at his office. He had 16 grandchildren at the time of his death. He was educated in Holland. He was a member of BPOE, Moose, Chamber of Commerce, and Planning and Zoning Commission. He owned Van Horn Implement Company in Charles City since 1956. He was the co-owner of Van-Web Equipment Company and previously owned and operated stores in Dumont, Allison and Waverly for 30 years. He was preceded in death by only his father. --Charles City Press, 11/10/1961 VAN HORN, 65, Dies Wednesday. Ben B. Van Horn 65 ,1207 Gilbert Street, died Wednesday night following a heart attack at his office at the Van Horn Implement Company. Mr. Van Horn was born in Nieuw Beerta, Holland on July 20, 1896, the son of William and Fanny Hartog Van Horn. He received his education in Holland, and came to the United States as a young man. On February 22, 1922 in Hansell he married Lola B. Woodley. He was a member of the BPOE Lodge, Moose Lodge, Chamber of Commerce, and the Planning and Zoning Commission. Mr. Van Horn had been in the farm equipment and implement business for the past 30 years, having owned and operated stores in Allison, Dumont, and Waverly prior to coming to Charles City in 1941. Since 1956 he owned and operated the Van Horn Implement Company. Prior to that time he was co-owner of the Van-Web Equipment Company. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Lloyd and Dean; and Keith of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Leaman of Mason City and Mrs. Duane Hartman of Garden Grove, Calif; 16 grandchildren; four brothers, Harm, Parkersburg; Dick, Greene; Louis, Mason City; and William Aredale; four sisters, Mrs. Albert Kampman, Dumont; Mrs. William McKee, Sheffield; Mrs. Fred Kusian, Parkersburg; and Carrie Van Horn, Aredale; and his mother, Mrs. William Van Horn, Aredale. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 P.M. at the First Methodist Church. The Rev. Paul H. Heath, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery. The Grossmann-Hage Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
