Bio

Floyd Fred Eakins, 74, of 440 Minneopa Ave, died Aug. 9, 1991, at 11:50 a.m. at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. He was born July 18, 1917 in Wapello County to Fred and Frannie Hazel Cook Eakins. He married Ruth L. Benefield June 3, 1948 in Otumwa. He was a member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church and was active in promotions for Indian Hills Community College. He was a carpenter, farmed for 15 years, and worked at Indian Hills Community College for 10 years until retiring in 1983. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army. He is survived by his wife; a son, John Fred of Ottumwa; two brothers, Henry and Alva, both of Ottumwa; four sisters, Lucy Proctor of Blakesburg, Alice Ritter and Marcille Hartley, both of Ottumwa, and Bertha Keller of Phoenix, AZ.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Alta and Ruth Eakins, Elsie Phillips and Blanche Reinhard. Service was held at the Calvary Baptist Church, the Rev. A.D. Pringle officiating.
