Eugene Fujan Black Hills Pioneer Wednesday, June 29, 2005 Funeral services for Eugene "Gene" G. Fujan will take place in Worthington, Minn., on Friday, July 1, 2005. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A rosary will be held at 1:30 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Larry Brixius officiating. Eugene "Gene" G. Fujan was born the son of Frank and Marie Fujan on the family farm in Walnut Grove, Minn., September 25, 1935. Gene was the fourth of six children. He graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1953 and attended Saint John's University. He in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957 and then enrolled in the University of Saint Thomas. While attending Saint Thomas, Gene met "Teddy" Theodora Christy Niemi. Following their courtship, they exchanged their lifelong vows on August 9, 1958 in Duluth, Minn. Returning to the farm in Walnut Grove, Gene and Teddy started a family. Teddy gave birth to three sons, David, Mark, Bruce and one daughter, Susette Christy. After four and one half years of farming on Plum Creek in Walnut Grove, Gene began a new career path as an agent for the State Farm Insurance Companies. Gene was admired, respected and well liked by his peers for his integrity, humility, hard work and sense of humor. Gene concluded his State Farm career on December 31, 2001. Gene and Teddy have enjoyed their retirement between the "Love Nest" in Las Vegas, Nev., and "Mimihaha" in Spearfish Canyon. They have made their home a welcoming place to many friends and family over the years. Eugene George Fujan met the face of God on June 27, 2005. He left behind a beautiful wife Teddy, four wonderful children, David Fujan of Tamarac, Fla., Mark Fujan and wife Sonya of Fairmont, Minn., Bruce Fujan and wife Robbi of Rochester, Minn., and Susette Steffl and husband Patrick of Brandon. He is also survived by 12 fabulous grandchildren; Jessica, Andrea, Melissa, Joseph, Brianna, Caitlin, Reed, Daniel, Samuel, Nicholas, Theodore, and Charles. Gene was loved and respected by hundreds, if not thousands, of persons with whom he shared his life, and considered friends. He was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he taught religious education for over 40 years, and lectured on Sundays. In addition, Gene was an active member of numerous organizations over the years in the Worthington community. Gene was a great man and he will be missed by his family and the many lives he has touched. Arrangements have been placed in the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel of Spearfish.
