Bio
Melvin L. Eakins, 71, of 325 S. Ward died Aug. 3, 1989 while vacationing in Rock Springs, Wy. He was born Sept. 20, 1917 in Davis County, to Ray and Gertrude Fleming Eakins. He was a retired employee of John Deere Ottumwa Works and was presently serving as a trustee of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 114. He married Wilma E. Inglesin Aug. 1940 He is survived by his wife; five sons, John and Ron, both of Ottumwa, Steve with the Navy in Japan, David of Cozad, Ne., and Dan of Minneapolis, Mn.; two daughters, Ann Thomas and Debra Green, both of Ottumwa, and 14 grandchildren. Services were held the the Johnson Funeral Chapel, David Eakins of Cozad, Ne., and Donald G. Hunt of Church of Christ in Ottumwa, officiating.
