Daily Herald (Arlington Heights, IL) - Friday, February 20, 2009 Jimmy Holmes Sr. Jimmy Holmes Sr., born in Dallas, Texas, on Oct. 29, 1923, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009. He was raised in Texas, served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and then moved to Chicago. While singing big-band music professionally, Jimmy worked in Menswear Clothing Management for several companies. Then in 1957, he opened his own business called, "Jimmy Holmes, A Man's Store." This launched close to 45 years of serving the Fox Valley communities with Menswear Clothing stores that were in Elgin, Geneva, Aurora and Kankakee. Jimmy has five children of his own and one stepdaughter, along with 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandkids. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret and son, John. Jimmy was known as a man of character in business and always a gentleman. He will be missed but his legacy will live on. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb, 21, at Highland Fellowship Church, 2250 W. Highland Ave., Elgin, 847-741-6629. James Garvin Holmes is a Mayflower Descendant of Mayflower passenger Peter Browne through his mother's line.
