Bio

Son of Daniel & Betty (Freeman) Augustyn. Grew up in the Ord/Burwell area, graduated from Ord High School in 1966. Military: U.S. Army's 1st Cavalry Division, served as an infantryman in Vietnam in 1969; was severely wounded by enemy fire and received the Purple Heart. Served 33 years with the U.S. Postal Service, in Kearney, Denver, and as a rural mail carrier in Bertrand; retired in January 2004; also studied at Kearney State College, obtained his bachelor's degree in business administration in 1988. Married: May 16, 2005, to Jan Hardesty in Kearney; lived in Kearney, recently moved to Lincoln. Activities: enjoyed riding motorcycles, watching NASCAR racing and Professional Bull Riding, and playing Texas hold 'em poker. Survivors include his wife; his mother, Betty Freeman; and sisters, Pam Pedersen of Grand Island and Cathy Lehecka of Kearney; also brothers-in-law, Gordon Pedersen of Grand Island and Craig Lehecka of Kearney. Was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Michael.
