In Memory of Mabel Urban Bollwitt September 10, 1922 ~ November 27, 2014 Mabel Bollwitt, age 92, of O'Neill, Nebraska, passed away Thursday evening, November 27, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in O'Neill, Nebraska. She was born on September 10, 1922, in rural Wheeler County, the daughter of Edward and Bertha (Ullrich) Urban. Mabel graduated from Wheeler County High School in 1939 and attended Chadron State College for one year where she earned her teaching certificate. She married Victor Bollwitt on June 1, 1941, at the Urban family homestead in Wheeler County - they celebrated their 73rd Anniversary June 1, 2014. To this union 7 children were born. Mabel was devoted to her family and raised them with patience, discipline and humility. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. God blessed her with talent for balancing multiple projects simultaneously. She loved baking, cake decorating, gardening, canning, sewing, knitting and crocheting all while helping with the family farm, especially in the hayfield. She shared her home with the multiple generations that filled her life. Mabel was soft spoken and faced life's difficulties with humility and patience. Many neighborhood children learned to play piano from Mabel. She always had time to teach others her skills. Mabel and Vic enjoyed many years of ballroom dancing, square dancing and going to polka festivals making many new friends along the way. Mabel was a school teacher, teaching in rural Wheeler and Holt counties and when the children were older she worked as a teacher's aide and a school bus driver. She was an active member of her church and served many years as the organist for St. John's Catholic Church near Ewing and also for St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill, Christian Mothers, Wheeler County Extension Club and a Wheeler County 4-H Leader. Left to cherish her memory are: her husband Victor; children, Duaine (Josie) Bollwitt, Eugene (Lorinda) Bollwitt, Shirley (Roger) Dillon, Gary (Melanie) Bollwitt, Rita Bollwitt, Rebecca (Jerome) Thunker; 22 grandchildren; and 2 step grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Karen Kay Green; son-in-law, James Green; four sisters; and one brother. No services are scheduled. She donated her body to the State Anatomical Board in Omaha. Burial will be in the O'Neill (Calvary) Cemetery at a later date. Obituary information from Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill, Nebraska.
