Geo. Satterfield Formerly of Ord, Fatally Burned Died in Hospital Here Sunday; Former Valley County Treasurer George A. Satterfield, former Valley county treasurer, died in the Ord Cooperative hospital at 11 am, Sunday, as the result of burns suffered the evening before, at Sargent, in an oil stove explosion in the Farmers State bank. He suffered severe burns about his face and over half of his body. He was given special treatments, including blood plasma, all Saturday night, but was unable to rally from the shock. Mr. Satterfield was cashier of the bank, and it is thought that he was cleaning the fuel line of the stove when the explosion occurred, throwing burning oil over him. He rushed out into the street, his clothing aflame. Owen Bryson, a farmer of near Sargent, Mrs. Bryson and Gaylord Wolsleben extinguished the flames with a jacket and a blanket. He was taken to the office of Dr. Taylor, of Sargent, where it was found he needed immediate hospitalization. He was brought to the hospital, in Ord, in the Spooner ambulance, by Bernard Brush. Mr. Satterfield was first appointed county treasurer, of Valley county, in December 1927, and held the office until August 27, 1949, when he resigned to become cashier of the Sargent bank. The county board appointed Lloyd Wilson as his successor. Mr. Satterfield had been trying the bank job for several months, on a leave of absence. He came to Ord from Taylor, Nebr., in 1922, and was employed as assistant cashier in the Ord State bank until his appointment to the county office. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Satterfield, still live at Taylor. Surviving him are his wife, Olivia; two daughters, Ellen, at Kearney State Teachers college, and Linda, at home; and a son, Richard, at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Also his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Satterfield; two brothers, Everett and Stanley, both of Taylor; two sisters, Carrie, Mrs. John Ward, Atkinson, and Doris, Mrs. Miles Ferguson, Taylor; and many other relatives and a great number of friends. Services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church by Rev. R. T. Cordry of Oregon, Missouri, assisted by Rev. L. V. Hassell. Pallbearers were: Herb Smits, Frank Vennedge, Art Meyer, John Lemmon, Clyde Baker, Archie Mason, Harry Shinn and Lloyd Wilson. The Ord Quiz - Thur, Jan 26, 1950, Pg 1, Col 1
