Contributor, M. Bishop 46922867 submitted a picture of J.C.'s marker, which was so appreciated!! It was rightly noted that the birth year is significantly wrong. The posted date, 1877, was determined through Social Security and death records.
James and his family came to Texas from Missouri and settled for a time in Ellis County. In 1906, he met, and married a recent widow with three small children. They farmed in Dawson, Jones, Fisher and Taylor counties at various times, but called their home the small town of Hamby in Jones County. Mrs. Walker was the former Lizzie Ann Claxton. She married Charlie F. Crow in Ellis County in 1900 at age 17. Mr. Crow died five years later in 1905, during one of several outbreaks of influenza. James and Lizzie raised four girls, three sons, in the Walker name, plus the two girls and one son in the Crow name.
