Ervin A. Morse, 89, of Grand Island died on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004 in Grand Island. Mr. Morse was born on Nov. 10, 1914 in Clarks to Rean and Carrie (Cerny) Morse. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Irene; and two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Jayne of Toledo, Ohio and Dana and Virginia of Salina, Kan. Also surviving are five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Erv served with the 44th Infantry Division during World War II and saw action in Europe. He was an American Legion member for 55 years. On Aug. 16, 1945, he married Frances Irene Fries. They farmed in Custer County until moving to Comstock, where Mr. Morse served as the village police officer. He retired as a professional steamfitter and enjoyed fishing, hunting and working in his shop in Doniphan, where they lived between 1966 and 2002.
