Married Feb 23 1888/1889 Plattsmouth, Cass, IA -------------------------------------------- OBITUARY After a brief illness, Mrs. Maggie Frances Hopkins closed her book of life at 7:30 am August 4th, 1943 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl Howell of North Loup, Neb. She was born at Des Moines, Ia., January 16, 1868 and reached the age of 75 years 6 months and 19 days at the time of her death. At the age of 19 years she was united in marriage to John D. Hopkins on February 23, 1889 at Plattsmouth, Neb. About a year after their marriage they came to Garfield Co., Neb., and settled on the homestead, which was their home until about seven years ago, when they took a trip to Oregon, spending a few years there, with their three children. About three years ago they made a short trip to Nebraska, but as they liked the climate in the west they returned to Oregon. And one year ago this month they returned to Nebraska with their son, Ralph and family and remained here. To her union with Mr. Hopkins were born nine children. One son passing on at the age of nine years. Those surviving are: Charles, Frank, and Ralph, all of Burwell, Neb.; Mrs. Fern Howells of North Loup, Neb.; Mrs. Joe Long of North Bend, Wash.; Mrs. Ella Dunsten of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Floyd Hopkins and Mrs. Katie Conard of Grant's Pass, Ore., who were all at her bedside when the end came. Mrs. Hopkins also has one sister of Council Bluffs, Ia., two brothers in Colorado and two in Oregon. Several nieces and nephews, nineteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. After many years of hard labor for the family and loved one, her health began to fail and since the death of her husband last January 11, she has gradually grown weaker. Everything that loving hands could do was done for her trying to make her comfortable as possible. The Ord Quiz - Aug 12 1943, Pg 2, Col 4
