Alfred "Al" Molesworth, 75, of Grand Island died Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Services will be at noon Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be at 3 p.m. in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with family greeting friends from 4 to 6. Mr. Molesworth was born June 4, 1931, in Custer County, near Gates to Charles H. and Nellie O. (Troxel) Molesworth. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby, in 2004. Survivors of the immediate family include two sisters and brothers-in-law, Amy and Stanley Petersen of Central City and Viola and Stanley Tucker of Sargent. Additional survivors include two brothers-in-law and their wives, Earl Lee and Carolyn Fear and Buster and Patricia Fear, all of North Platte; a sister-in-law and her husband, Ruth and Robert Quimby of Sutherland; and six nieces and three nephews. Al was raised on a farm/ranch in Custer County and attended country school. He worked as a farm/ranch hand until entering the U.S. Army in 1949, serving 18 months in the Korean Conflict. He returned to farm/ranch work until 1956, when health problems forced him to seek medical attention. On March 2, 1956, he married Ruby L. Fear at North Platte. They made their home on a ranch near Brady, until health problems again caused Al to seek medical attention. They then moved for a short time northwest of Hershey before moving to Grand Island. In Grand Island, he worked at the Veterans Hospital as a cook, then later as an elevator operator, and then as a building maintenance worker until his retirement 23 1/2 years later. He then did odd jobs until he went to work for Skagway and Dow Service as a custodian until retiring at age 65. For the past three years Al had made his home at the Grand Island Veterans Home. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 53, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the National Rifle Association. He was a life member of VFW Post 1347, the National Association of Federal Retired Employees and a past member of the Good Sam Camping Club and the Rolling Eagles. Mr. Molesworth enjoyed hunting, fishing and garden and yard work. While a resident at the veterans home, he was always willing to help his fellow veterans in any way he could.
