Roger Bruce Owens, 78, of Lexington, Nebraska died Friday, July 22, 2016, at his home. Roger was born September 21, 1937, in Loup City, Nebraska, to Harold and Ruth (Williams) Owens. He attended grade school in Arcadia until moving to Ord where he graduated from High School. He then went onto further his education at Kearney State University. He was united in marriage to Julie Kowalski on November 20, 1959. They were blessed with three children; Chandra, RoxAnne & Tobin. Roger and Julie lived in Ord where Roger was the Produce Manager of Safeway. As Manager, they moved from Ord to Hastings and ended up in Lexington in 1963. In 1968, Roger decided to change careers and sell insurance. He was a very successful though reluctant salesman throughout his career with Continental General Insurance Company. He made and kept many dear friends through the years of selling insurance. He loved football, baseball and golf. Roger was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan and enjoyed attending the College Baseball World Series. Baseball was very important to Roger and, with a group of men in Lexington, he volunteered and helped to rejuvenate the Lexington Youth Baseball Programs. Roger enjoyed spending time with his coffee groups as well as his Friday night club. He liked working in his garden, trees and making sure he kept a beautiful yard. But most importantly, Roger loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Roger leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Julie of Lexington, Nebraska; children, Chandra and her husband Gregg Baumann of Omaha, Nebraska; RoxAnne and her husband Kory Koenig of Papillion, Nebraska; and Tobin and his wife Amy Owens of Lexington, Nebraska; six grandchildren; Bruce Baumann, Emma Baumann, Matthew Koenig, Catherine Koenig, Abigail Owens and Griffin Owens; brother, Harlon Owens of Billings, Montana; sisters, Ruth Suminski and Alma Hruza of Ord, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Brice, two sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law and two nephews. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with Reverend Jose Chavez, officiating. Interment will be on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the Arcadia Cemetery. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
