Laverne Cook, Age 88, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, July 23, 2016 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Oscar Chavez, Chaplain of Area Community Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Laverne was born on January 8, 1928 in Coleman, Texas to Thomas L. and Fay Hicks. She moved to Tulia at an early age and attended Tulia schools. She married Harold Douglas Cook on October 26, 1946 in Dallas. They lived in Tulia where they owned Cook’s Studio for several years. She also worked for Piggly Wiggly grocery store, she was a rural mail carrier on the Vigo Route; she owned and operated Vern’s Kitchen and also worked at the Tulia nursing home. She loved to paint but more importantly she loved her animals. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and an infant brother. Her family includes three sons: Doug Cook and wife Debra of White Deer, Gary Cook and wife Kim of Taos, NM and David Cook of Tulia, one sister: Brenda Frausto of Lubbock, seven grandchildren: Crystal Fouquet and husband Bobby of White Deer, Ryan Cook and wife April of Canadian, Shana McDowell and husband Sy of Tulia, Aaron Cook and wife Jeanelle of Orange Beach, Alabama, Logan Cook of Taos, NM, Amanda Goins and husband Jason of Portales, NM, Amber Russell and husband Dustin of Taos, NM, nineteen great grandchildren, one great, great grandson and several nieces and nephews.
