George is a son of English Immigrants Michael Vaughan and Jane Maria Brain. He grew up in Lehi, Utah where his father died when he was thirteen. George served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to England in 1897. He back in Lehi with is mother by 1900. The Census record shows that he was attending school. George married Rhoda Elizabeth Sayer on January 18, 1905 in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1920 they were in Richmond, California. In 1930 they were in Berkeley, California. In 1940 they were in Oakland, California. The Census records show that he was employed as a stationary engineer. (Stationary engineers are responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of a wide range of equipment including boilers, steam turbines, gas turbines, pumps, gas compressors, generators, motors, air conditioning systems, heat exchangers, refrigeration equipment, etc.)
