Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph F. Carda will be held on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Kearney, Nebraska with Father Paul Colling officiating. Rosary will be recited, prior to Mass at the church at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, south of Maxwell, Nebraska with Military Honors provided by the North Platte Honor Guard in conjunction with the United States Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team. Joseph Francis Carda, 88 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the Harlan County Health System Hospital in Alma, Nebraska. Joseph was born on March 15, 1928 on the family farm near, Taber, South Dakota to Frank and Ludmella (Vosek) Carda. His early years of education, were spent attending a small country school near his home and later graduated from Tyndall High School in South Dakota. Joseph worked on the family farm until he volunteered for duty as a rifleman with the United States Army during World War II in September of 1946. He returned from overseas and began his new life installing and maintaining electrical power lines. On June 22, 1957, he was united in marriage to Rozella Rowena Arbogast in Plainville, Kansas. To this union three daughters and three sons were born: Joseph, Anita, Maris, Marita, Petrina, and Damian. For years while Joseph was employed as a Lineman for the Rural Electric Association, and later a Line Foreman with Gibbs Construction, they made their home in several mid-western states and finally ended up in Nebraska. In 1973, they made their home in Kearney, Nebraska where Joseph was employed by Dawson Public Power as a Lineman until retirement, which brought them to Alma. Joseph was a long time member of The American Legion in Kearney. He loved boating, fishing, gardening, flowers and talking with new or old friends every chance he got. Joseph was well known for his work ethic, dedication to family, directness, electric tricycle rides and keno skills. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Stanley and Clarence Carda; and his son, Joseph Carda, Jr. Joseph leaves to celebrate his life; his wife of 59 years, Rozella of Alma; five children: Anita Wortman and her husband, Mike of Kearney, Maris Carda of York, Nebraska, Marita Fishel and her husband, Donnie of Shelton, Nebraska, Petrina Maul and her husband, John of Kearney, and Damian Carda and his wife, Carla of Hastings, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren: Andrew Wortman, Sara Carda, Zachary Carda, Tyler Carda, Jeremy Fishel, Brandon Fishel, Amy Fishel, Alyssa Maul, Dayton Maul, Joseph Carda and Jacob Carda; one great-grandson: Cashton Aiken; one sister: Helen Vavruska of Tyndall, South Dakota; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma. A memorial has been established in Joseph’s honor and kindly suggested to the family for later designation. The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of the arrangements. 7/12/2016
