On the U. S. Census 1930 of Laramie, Albany Co., Wyoming he is listed with the last name Elsie. He changed his name when another John Kirkpatrick was working for the same railroad. John is with his wife Hattie, son Loyd and daughter Eva Mae. Their oldest daughter Dorothy is in the same town with her husband Gustaf Carlson. John was a train engineer. He was killed in train accident north of Denver.
