Maynard Charles "Charlie" Findley, 69, of Albion, Nebraska, and long-time owner of the Albion Dairiette, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at the Premier Estates Care Center in Fremont, Nebraska. Maynard Charles Findley, son of Maynard Creighton and Vena Beth (Fuller) Findley, was born August 14, 1946 at Lincoln General Hospital, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was baptized at the Congregational Church. He received his education at Albion, graduating from Albion High School in 1964. On June 16, 1967, Charlie entered the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam, earning the Air Force Commendation Medal, before being discharged on June 15, 1971. In May of 1976, he received his Bachelors of Science degree in Recreational and Park Administration from California State University, in Sacramento California. Charlie later returned to Albion where he taught swimming lessons at the Albion Swimming pool, bar tended at the Albion Country Club, took photos at school activities, and helped his parents at the Albion Dairiette. He later took over the ownership and management of the family business, along with continuing to help with swimming lessons and assisting with the swimming portion of the high school physical education classes. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and American Legion, and Congregational Church. In recent years, he was a member of the swimming pool committee that helped steer the construction of a news pool in Albion. Charlie enjoyed photography, reading the newspaper, crossword puzzles, coloring line art and was always a big supporter of the youth athletics. For years, he ran the video camera at the local high school football games, and rewarded athletes with free malts when they won the game. Charlie is survived by: 13 cousins, Thomas Findley, James Findley, Patricia Twomey, Robert Findley, Pamela Kidwell, Scott Findley, Richard Findley, Terri Runnings, Susan Findley, Gail Mauppin, Cheryl Kisling, John Findley, and Linda Lee Grace; along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents; maternal and paternal grandparents; aunts; uncles; and cousins. Funeral services on Friday, July 8, 2016 at the Congregational UCC Church in Albion. Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion, with military rites by American Legion Post #162 and V.F.W. Post #736 of Albion. Obituary information from Levander Funeral Home of Albion, Nebraska.
