VALPARAISO VISITOR--Hugo Fredrick Saathoff, oldest child of Edward and Bertha Saathoff, was born at Mead, Nebraska on January 15, 1892. At the age of three months he was baptised in the German Lutheran Church. A short time later, the family moved to a farm two and one half miles east of Ceresco, where Hugo grew to manhood. As a boy he regularly attended Pleasant Hill Methodist Church with his family. In 1919, he moved to a farm near Valparaiso, Nebraska, where he made his home and engaged in farming until his illness forced him to give up farm work. On January 21, 1920, he was united in marriage with Miss Emma Scharf. He served for many years on Oak Ridge School Board and following his illness in recent years, he was a member of the Township Board of Oak Creek Precinct. He was a man who always stood ready to help a neighbor in need. He passed away July 18, 1948 in a Lincoln hospital after a lingering illness of several years. He was 56 years, 6 months, and 3 days. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Emma, two sisters, Mrs. William Maynard of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Mrs. Martha Anderson of Ceresco; two brothers, John and Jesse of Ceresco.
