Leonard Oscar Meier December 19, 1938 - June 25, 2016 Leonard Oscar Meier, 77 Brazoria, Texas passed away, Saturday, June 25, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 19, 1938 in Birch, Texas to Otto and Leona (Poehl) Meier. He was a Maintenance Electrician by trade and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Brazoria. Funeral services will be held 10:00am, Thursday, June 30, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church with Emory Glover officiating. Burial will follow at Brazoria Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Baker Funeral Home in Brazoria. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Ben and Donald Hopwood; Layne Heble, Mason Ray, and Jeff Stevens; nephews Larry and Gary Scott. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Natalie Stevens, Melissa Hopwood, Morgan Ray, Kaitlyn McCarty, Landrie Heble and niece, Cheryl Dirzanowski. Leonard is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne Hopwood. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Melvina Meier of Brazoria; daughters, Cynthia (Bill) Hopwood of Brazoria; Susan McCarty of Abilene; Sharon (Allen) Ray of Bryan and Cathie (Kevin) Heble of Lake Jackson; brother, Marvin (Genie) Meier of Lake Jackson; grandchildren, Natalie (Jeff) Stevens, Ben (Melissa) Hopwood, Morgan Ray, Kaitlyn McCarty, Donald Hopwood, Layne Heble, Mason Ray and Landrie Heble; great-grandchildren, Preston and Gwen Stevens; and Elizabeth Dianne Hopwood. Dad/Papa loved all of his girls and grandchildren. He and Grammie were at every dance recital, sporting event, whatever we had going on. We all knew we were the light of his eyes. We all knew we were loved and truly blessed to have Dad/Papa. Because of Dad's love for sports, he was involved in Brazoria Little League for 27 years through coaching and umpiring.
