Herman Winston Brown, a retired plant manager and civil engineer, died Wednesday of a stroke at his home in Mandeville. He was 87. Mr. Brown was born in Oberlin and lived in Mandeville for four years. He was a graduate of Tyler Business School and the University of Chicago. He worked for the Louisiana State University Engineering Department in Baton Rouge until the end of World War II. He then worked for Holloway Enterprises in the marine sand and gravel division. He later transferred to Monroe, where he was the concrete plant manager. He retired in 1971. He was a member of Calhoun United Methodist Church in Calhoun, where he taught an adult Sunday school class for 20 years. Survivors include his wife, Robbie Johnson Brown; a daughter, Zella Brown Walker; and three granddaughters. A funeral will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Mandeville. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington.
