Bio

Doris R. McLellan, 92, of Grand Island died Friday, June 24, 2016, at Tiffany Square, with her family by her side. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Chaplain Jay Towell will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Doris was born Oct. 9, 1923, at South Shore, S.D., the daughter of Walter and Ruby (Roberts) Meyer. Survivors include her husband, William McLellan III; her children and their spouses, Marilyn Lechner of Cairo, Larry and Karen Berstler of Grand Island and Rick and Mary Berstler of Tehachapi, Calif.; her stepchildren and their spouses, Bill and Jannan McLellan of Grand Island and Karen and Jack Beckmann of Grand Island; eight grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Berstler; her parents; a great-grandson, Aaron Berstler; a son-in-law, Allan Lechner; six sisters and three brothers. Doris was raised and received her education in South Dakota. She was one of 10 children. On Jan. 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Berstler. To this union were born their three children. Mr. Berstler died in 1970. She then married William McLellan III on March 10, 1973. Together they farmed and raised cattle. William would joke with her that she was his hired hand. Doris enjoyed listening to music and dancing, and she was an avid bowler. She was a wonderful cook and the family especially loved her homemade pies. Her greatest joy was the family gatherings and being together. Doris was also a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and volunteered for many years at the gift shop for St. Francis Medical Center.
