Cemetery per death certificate.
Brownstown Banner December 4, 1901 Fred Quade, one of the most highly esteemed German citizens on the county, died at his home about two and a half miles northeast of here, Tuesday, December 3, 1901, aged 62 years, 2 months and 24 days. He had been suffering about a week from appendicitis and as his condition grew more serious each day an operation was performed as a last resort, but without success. Mr. Quade was one of the best known German citizens of this part of the county. His kind and jovial disposition made him a host of friends, who will be sorry to learn of his death. He was an industrious and upright citizen and spent most of his life at farming. At one time he was associated with Wm. Wacker in the milling business at Shields, and when the mill was destroyed by fire in 1878 they lost about $4,000 each. Deceased was born in Harlinghausen, Westphalia, Germany, September 9, 1839, and came with his brother Frank to this country in 1856. He came direct to Brownstown and has resided in this immediate vicinity ever since. He was united in marriage to Lottie Steinkamp, who survives him, about 40 years ago. To their union were born eleven children, six boys and five girls. Four sons and one daughter have preceded him to the grave, and two sons and four daughters survive him, viz: Henry Quade, of Oklahoma; Mrs. Fred Schneider, of Driftwood township; Mrs. Edward Claybaker, Wm. Quade, and misses Annie and Lula Quade. The funeral will be conducted at Sauers church Thursday at noon.
