Bio
Helen Buckner, 86, of Chico, died Saturday, June 11, 2016, in Bowie. Funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport with the Rev. Gary Demmitt officiating. Burial will follow at Cumby Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Curtis Buckner, Todd Buckner, Mark Buckner, Jeff Buckner, Willford Buckner and Brian Sheppard. Helen was born May 17, 1930, in Idalou to Curtis and Bessie (Sims) Sheppard. She married Harlan Buckner March 21, 1953, in Denton. Helen was a teacher in Bridgeport ISD until she retired. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bridgeport. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Wallace Sheppard. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harlan Buckner of Chico; daughter Jan Fletcher and husband, Craig, of Lebanon; son Randel Buckner and wife, Delinda, of Chico; grandchildren Stephanie Buckner, Whitlee Stewart and husband, Chaz, Curtis Buckner and wife, Whitney, Wes Fletcher and Britlee Fletcher; great-grandchildren Maddy, Creese, Cullen and Juliet; sister Cletabel Irvin of Denton; and other family members and friends.
