Bio
erna M. Brewer, 101, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, June 16, 2016. She was born December 21, 1914. She was the daughter of Bertha and Harry Humbert. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School. She married Ora Brewer in 1939 and worked for the Winfield Courier. She then went to work for and retired from the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. Verna was a member of the First Christian Church in Winfield. She loved sewing and was always creating new quilts. She always enjoyed visits from family and many friends, and all the cards she received. Her family includes: Her son: Joe Brewer; Her step daughter: Wanda Catchings; Her 4 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Verna was preceded in death by her daughter, Roberta Brewer Straley and two brothers, Harry and Ben Humbert. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, June 20, 2016 at Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Kansas. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you go visit someone in a care center or send a card to someone you haven’t seen for a while.
