OBITUARY GOLDIE MAHALA CONNER HECKART FRENCH Goldie Mahala French of Coal Creek died March 16, 1986 in Florence at the age of 80. She was born Nov. 15, 1905 in Ottumwa to David and Mary K. (Tillotson) Conner. Mrs. French was a retired business woman and a member of the Oak Creek Southern Baptist Church. In her younger years she married Ira Heckard. They lived around Fowler for a number of years, then she lived in Bonners Ferry for 36 years. The Heckards had three sons, one of whom died as a baby. The other two, Russell Heckard and Eugene Heckard were in the service. Russell Heckard died in 1980 leaving behind a wife and daughter. Eugene Heckard married Barbara Abbott and to this union were born: Larry, Donald and Sharon. Donald died in Dec. of 1984. Larry Heckard has four children. Sharon (Heckard) Carstens has two girls. Everywhere Goldie lived she enjoyed many and dear friends. She lived in the Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where she ran a logging business. She returned to Colorado in 1980 and settled in Coal Creek, where she lived until her death. Mrs. French served as the mayor of Coal Creek for two years and was an active member of the Coal Creek Southern Baptist Church. She was active in the senior citizens program and ran a mail route. She also supervised a crew in the hop fields. In addition to her family, she leaves behind many dear friends, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 20 at Oak Creek Southern Baptist Church in Rockvale with the Rev. James C. Wilhite officiating.
