Wanda DeFoor Wanda Lavada DeFoor, age 80, of Hollis, passed away, Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Colonial Manor II Nursing Home, in Hollis, one day short of her 81st birthday. Mrs. DeFoor was born on June 8, 1935, in Wellington, Texas, to Lloyd Bennett and Faye (Darnell) Garrett. Lavada was the oldest child of L. B. and Faye Garrett; her siblings included Dorothy Jaehnig of Roanoke, Jerry Garrett, Terry Garrett, Neva Jackson, Kathye Miller of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Frankie Garrett of Oklahoma City. She married Bennie J. DeFoor on July 21, 1951 in Wellington, Texas, and they lived on the farm north of Arnett for the past 64 years. Lavada had three children: LaQueta Pike of Hollis, Kay Rollins of San Angelo, Texas, and Keven DeFoor of Hollis. She had five grandchildren Michael McAlister of Hollis, Travis Rollins of San Angelo, Krissa Hughes of San Angelo, Sarah Shotts of Hollis and Sam DeFoor of Hollis. She had six great-grandkids, including Marilyn, Karlie, and Mattie McAlister, Garrett and Gage Shotts, and Rylee Hughes. Her home was always open to any nieces or nephews or anyone who needed refuge. Lavada earned her LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse) in 1969 and served as a nurse for the next thirty years mostly in Wellington, Texas. She retired in 1999. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, gardening and reading, but the love of her life was being with her family. They spent many happy hours fishing and camping at Ft. Cobb and Lugert. Lavada was an active member of the Hollis Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Jerry and Terry, her sister Neva, her son-in-law Scott Pike, her brother-in-law Michael Miller, and her two great-grandsons Benjamin and Gavin Hughes. Survivors include her husband Bennie J. DeFoor, her daughters LaQueta Pike and Kay Rollins and husband Dale; her son Keven DeFoor and wife Barbara, sisters Dorothy Jaehnig and husband Claus, Kathye Miller, brother-in-law Randy Jackson, brother Frankie Garrett and wife Paula, grandchildren Michael McAlister and wife Karrie, Travis Rollins, Krissa Hughes and husband Gary, Sara Shotts and husband Casey and Sam Defoor, great- grandchildren Marilyn, Karlie, Mattie, Garrett, Gage and Rylee along with many other nieces and nephews.
