Bio

Charles E. Lortz was born in Buffalo, New York, October 27, 1841. At that place he resided until 1861 when he enlisted in Battery I, First New York Artillery, in which he served three years and eight months. After the war he went to Ohio where he married Angeline Shroll on September 28, 1872. To them were born ten children all of whom survive except one daughter, Elizabeth. He came to Nebraska in 1884 and located at Utica where he resided twenty years. He lived in North Dakota two years after which he returned to Nebraska and located on a claim in Blaine county near Perdum where he resided until his death. Besides the nine children he is survived by one brother, John Lortz of Buffalo, New York, and a sister, Mrs. Sarah Maeder of Utica. He died at Halsey, Nebraska, April 13, 1914, at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 16 days. The remains were laid to rest in the Perdum cemetery.
