Bio

Daniel Sonka was born August 26, 1928 in Ennis, Texas and died January 16, 2016 after a short illness. The Department of Veterans Affairs (North Texas Health Services) will honor Daniel in a Memorial Service on Monday, May 9, 2016 and in Bonham on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. Dan graduated from Ennis High School in Ennis, Texas in 1945. He enlisted on July 16, 1946. Dan was stationed at Geiger Field in Spokane, Washington and was honorably discharged on December 30, 1947. Dan had several part time jobs while attending Arlington State College, graduating in 1957 with and Associate of Science Degree in Civil Engineering Technology. He worked for Gilford Hill-American Inc. 1956-1972; as a Design Technician and as a Sales Representative 1972-1973. December 1973 to March 1991, he worked for Bowles & Edens Co, Dallas, Texas (suppliers of water utility materials); as a Sales Representative. Dan & Fran were married May 13, 1991 and being an only child, he now had 5 brothers. Dan was a member of the Cedar Creek Lake United Methodist Church in Tool, Texas. Dan was a loving, caring friend, husband, grandfather & great-grandfather. He was a man of many talents. He loved to dance, and he was very good at it. His hobby was glass blowing; he had a booth on weekends at Grand Prairie. He should have been an artist. Dan was great at printing and sketching the projects we were always doing. He always enjoyed working the elections for Henderson County. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Daniel & Jarretta Jaresh Sonka, grandparents John & Mary Lanick Sonka from Czechoslovakia, and Ed & Annie Petre Jaresh from Czechoslovakia.
