Richard E. "Dick" Grundon, Sr., 89, died peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at his home in Speeceville, surrounded by his family. Born in Clinton, OH in July 20, 1926, he was a son of the late Esther V. (Mehaffie) and Herbert R. Grundon, Sr. A 1944 graduate of John Harris High School, Richard served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Williams, DE 372. Richard worked at the family business, Grundon's Bakery, before becoming a carpenter and working in the building trade for many years. He retired from Capital Blue Cross and Harrison Neal Dental Lab. He was a member of Carpenter's Union 287, Der Harrisburg Maennerchor, and American Legion Post 1001. He spent his final years at his beloved Oleo Acres in Speeceville, playing the organ and tending the grass on his International Cub, "Harvey". The self-proclaimed 'Speeceville Mayor' was known and loved for his quit wit, warm smile and generous spirit. Richard is survived by his wife of 72 years, Sarah V. (Bean) Grundon; daughters, Nancy L. Guss of Kenly, NC; Shirley "Sue" Baker (Steven) of Liverpool, PA; a son, Daniel L. Grundon (Pamela) of Camp HIll, PA; brother Alfred Grundon, Mechanicsburg; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Richard E. "Ross" Grundon, Jr.; a daughter, Virginia A. Trostle, granddaughter, Joann Lynn Guss; brothers Herbert R. Grundon, Jr., Donald P. Grundon and sister, Nancy Grundon Fox. Visitation will be held at Hope United Presbyterian Church, 931 Red Hill Road, Dauphin. PA 17018 at 10AM Wednesday, June 1st with a memorial service at 11AM. Interment with full military honors will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA, Tuesday, June 2, at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hope United Presbyterian Church in Richard's name.
