The Roanoke Leader October 1912 NEWSPAPER ABSTRACTS FROM "THE ROANOKE LEADER", Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama for OCTOBER 1912 NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, October 9, 1912 KILLED BY LIGHTNING Yesterday morning, the remains of G.D. Pittman arrived over the Central railroad from Wilcox, Arizona, accompanied by the deceased's sister, Miss Lena Pittman. Mr. Pittman lost his life last Wednesday by a stroke of lightning. The devoted sister then started on the long and mournful pilmigrage, bringing the body home to rest in the family burying ground seven miles northeast of town. The funeral services were conducted at Springfield yesterday afternoon by Rev. S.L. Dobbs, in the presence of many sympathizing friends. The unfortunate young man was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Pittman. He had entered a tract of land and would have soon secured his deed. His sister had gone out West to be with him and teach school. The sad tragedy which has so suddenly overtaken this good family has evoked the sympathy of many friends. ----
