Bio
Judy Renger, 97, of Hallettsville, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016. She was born in Holman, Texas on January 18, 1919 to Emil and Wilma Mensik Vacek. When she was a young girl, her family moved to Weimar, Texas where her father was associated with banking and insurance. After completing studies at St. Michael Elementary and Weimar High School, she attended business school in Houston. After completion of her studies, she was employed as a secretary in Schulenburg, Texas for a gas company. On August 9, 1941 she married Dr. Everett Renger, Sr. of Hallettsville. In 1942, Everett, Jr. was born and the family moved to San Antonio and then to Brady, Texas where Dr. Renger was a Captain in the United States Army. After World War II, the family moved to Hallettsville and another son, Gene, was born in 1946. Judy was an extraordinary lady. She was always giving of herself. Her church, family and friends were her life. She served on the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Board during the planning of the present church of which she has been a member for most of her life. For over sixty years, she has been a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She held several positions with the Hallettsville Parent Teachers Association and was actively involved with the education of her sons. She was a room mother for each son for all twelve grades. She actively supported the Boy Scouts and was a leader with the local Cub Scouts. She volunteered whenever she could and was a contributor to many organizations. She was an organizer and charter member of the Lavaca County Unit of the American Cancer Society, instrumental in the formation of the Texas Chapter and served as District 20 Director as well as serving on the State Board in Austin. In 1996, in Austin, at the fifty-first annual meeting, Judy and Everett were honored by the American Cancer Society for fifty years of volunteer services. She served on the Friench Simpson Memorial Library Board of Directors for twenty-one years, was an officer of the Hallettsville Golf Association and was active in the building of the golf course. Judy was a member and officer in the Garden Club, Reading Club, Guadalupe Valley Ladies Dental Auxiliary and various bridge clubs. She loved her morning coffee friends who began meeting at her home and later grew to a group of approximately twenty-five local ladies. She loved to entertain and frequently invited friends and organizations to her home where she prepared many lovely dinners. She enjoyed traveling both locally and abroad. Judy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister, Dorothy Rodgers Miksch, her brother, Gene Vacek and granddaughter Brandy Renger. Judy touched many lives throughout her lifetime. Her glowing personality, wonderful sense of humor and beautiful smile will be remembered fondly. Regardless of how difficult the situation, she always maintained a positive attitude which inspired all in her presence. She had a generosity of spirit and radiance that permeated her life and those around her. She was truly a gift from God. Funeral Mass Service: 11 am, Friday, June 3, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation: 5 pm, Thursday, at Kubena Funeral Home with Rosary starting at7 pm. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters.
