Confederate Soldier
(Civil War) CSA— Served as 1st Lt. of the 19th TN Infantry Co. E "Knoxville Guards" News Clip Transcribe: After much delay and painful uncertainty we learn at last that this brave young officer is dead. He was a citizen of Sevier County, Tenn., and a member of the "Knoxville Guards." Having evinced all the qualities of the true soldier and Southern gentleman, during the campaign down to the Fishing Creek disaster, 19th January 1862, he then fell mortally wounded. A fellow soldier tried to remove him from the field, but he believed himself fatally injured and generously urged his friend to leave him and save others. He survived only a few days in the Federal camps, where he had the attention of Dr. Delaney, Surgeon of the 19th Tenn. Reg't. A widowed mother grieves over the loss of a noble and affectionate son, and the South will record his name high on the scroll of imperishable renown. Peace to his ashes—honor to his memory!
