Joan E. Milnes, 94, died May 21, 2016 at the Goshen Healthcare Community. Joan was born August 19, 1921 in Homer, Nebraska the daughter of Ray and Eunice (Sater) Brown. Her family moved to the Red Cloud area near Jay Em, Wyoming and she received her education there. She married Orval Milnes on August 20, 1936. They moved to Torrington, Wyoming and then to Cheyenne, Wyoming for a short time before moving to the Sunrise/Hartville, Wyoming area. They later moved to Guernsey, Wyoming where she worked at the Guernsey Community Federal Credit Union as the manager and bookkeeper. Joan enjoyed painting, gardening, flowers and Bible studies. She was a member of the Guernsey Presbyterian Church, Women’s Group, and was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star where she was a Past Worthy Matron and served as Grand Officer, Grand Chaplain and was involved in Job’s Daughters. She was also involved in Girl Scouts and served as a camp counselor. Joan is survived by two daughters, Trellas Gotcher of Garland, Texas and Annette Schmidt of Laramie, Wyoming; three sisters, Josephine Haynes, Audrey Brown and Karen Ross all of Guernsey, Wyoming; two brothers, James Brown of Torrington, Wyoming and Ray Brown of Lusk, Wyoming; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse; a daughter, Alberta Valdez; a brother, Lucene (Bud) Brown; two granddaughters, Athol (Amy) Gotcher-Frahm and Jeriann Villabos; a grandson, Henry E. Gotcher; and a great-granddaughter, Maxine Valdez. © Guernsey Gazette May 26, 2016
