Evelyn Ann Scorza, 70, of West, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at St. Catherine's Center in Waco. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, by Seminarian Festus, at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at the church with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Evelyn Ann was born in West, Texas, to the late Joe and Norma Kolar. She had lived in Houston and graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in teaching. She taught as a fourth grade elementary teacher in Houston until 1967, when she married Mario U. Scorza and relocated to Conroe, Texas. She began teaching in the Conroe ISD from 1968 to 1973 when she relocated with her husband and two daughters, to her birth place in West. She was employed at the West ISD until she retired in 1986. Evelyn was a homemaker who had a wide variety of hobbies, including gardening, cooking, writing, painting, classical music/opera studies and collecting many books and publications, which included cookbooks. She was a member of Figure World in Waco for many years, a former member of Catholic Daughters, and belonged to the Central Texas Water Color Society. For leisure time, she enjoyed numerous relaxing moments at the beach with her family in Corpus Christi, and picnics at the lake that she cherished. Survivors include her husband, Mario, of West; daughters, Valerie A. Saldana and husband, Alex, of Houston and Julie E. Scorza, of West; brothers, Calvin Kolar and John Kolar; sister, Diann Williams, all of Houston; grandson, Gabriel Saldana, of Houston; several nieces and nephews; aunts, Emily Horsak, of Hillsboro and Willie Mae Vavra, of Ennis; and many other relatives and friends.
