Leonard, Texas -- Funeral services for Theodore Vinson, age 89 of Leonard, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Bailey, Texas with Rev. Eddie Frazier and Rev. Brian Hawkins will officiate. Burial will be in the Randolph-Lindsey Cemetery. Mr. Vinson died Monday, August 2, 2004 at the Leonard Country Care and Rehab. He was born February 19, 1915 in Randolph, Texas the son of Chester Arthur Vinson and Nannie Ella Johns Vinson. He married Edith Cotham on January 19, 1946 in Savoy, Texas. Mr. Vinson was a carpenter and a member of the First Baptist Church in Bailey. He was a veteran of WWII, where he served in Normandy, northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Mr. Vinson was awarded the Purple Heart. Theodore Vinson is survived by his wife, Edith Vinson; son and daughter-in-law, David and Vickie Vinson; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Joe Gilbert, Nancy and Terry Pettit; sister, Helen Daniel; grandchildren, Anthony and wife, Donna Gilbert, Amy and husband Jason Simpson, Nathan Pettie and Chaley Pettit; great-grandchildren, Coleman Gilbert, Travis Gilbert and Laura Leigh Simpson. Mr. Vinson was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers; Virgie Mahan, James Vinson, Thelma Cotham and Franklin Vinson. Taylor Funeral Home in Leonard has charge of arrangements.
