John B. McDonald, 82, of Leroy, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Royal Manor Nursing Home in Waco. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 16, 2016, at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Gerald Cemetery, with Dr. John Crowder officiating. John Benarr was born in Marfa, Texas, to the late James Lawson and Mary Velma (Lane) McDonald. He was a 1953 graduate of Lometa High School. John served his country with the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1959. He was united in marriage to Jan M. Cox on May 16, 1995 in Hillsboro. John worked for General Tire and Rubber Company in Waco for over 30 years before retiring in 1983. He also farmed and raised cattle. John was a 50 year member of the Bellmead Masonic Lodge #1329. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, watching old movies, working word jumbles, and fixing things. John is preceded in death by his twin brother, James Lamarr McDonald; and a step-daughter Narvella Turner. Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Jan "Bullett" McDonald, of Leroy; daughters, Johna Therrell and husband, Jim, of Woodway, and Meredith Ferguson and husband, Mert, of Hewitt; grandchildren, Heath and Cameron McDaniel; seven great-grandchildren; step-daughter, Marcella Jewell, of Elm Mott; step-son, David Gillespie, of Chalk Bluff; a special step-granddaughter, Kashawna Nelson and husband, Larry; step-grandchildren: Jason Forsythe, David Gillespie III, and Matthew Gillespie; brother, Harold McDonald; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
