Bio

Lois Laree Christensen Jones September 22, 1934 ~ May 8, 2016 Resided in Hooper, Utah Lois Laree Christensen Jones, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at home from sudden heart failure on Mother's Day, May 8, 2016 in Hooper, Utah. Lois was born September 22, 1934, the last of 6 girls born to James Peter Christensen and Julia Mae Bown. She grew up in Elsinore, Utah and graduated from South Sevier High School in 1952. She loved education and received an Associates Degree from the College of Southern Utah in 1954 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Home and Family Living from Utah State University in 1956. She served a full-time LDS mission to Denmark. When she returned in 1960, she began teaching Home Economics and was adored by her students. She taught in Portland, Oregon, Layton, Tabiona and Kamas, Utah. In 1963, Lois married Robert Page and they had a daughter, Lori, 6 years later in California. Soon after they divorced, Lois and Lori moved to Utah. Lois met Alton Read Jones in 1983. She thought he was the most kind and loving man she had ever known. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 2, 1984. Lois was always found working and playing hard. She worked at Trace Minerals Research for the past 30 years where she absolutely loved her co-workers. She and Read grew a beautiful garden and she is famous for her canned salsa. The neighbors flocked to her home each Halloween for homemade donuts. Lois always made time for a card game of Shang-hai, but was occasionally known to cheat (especially if it helped her daughter win!) As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lois served in many callings but has loved teaching the children in the primary organization the most. She made certain the children knew that both she and Heavenly Father loved them. Her dedication to church service was also manifested as Lois and Read faithfully served as building maintenance coordinators. She loved attending the temple and everyone always knew she sipped a "temple Coke" beforehand to help her stay alert! Lois was the one we all turned to for compassion, advice, and love. After a conversation with Lois, you may be told to shake off a problem with a "Tra-La-La" and would always be reminded that "Lois MaGoo loves you!" She cared for and nurtured everyone she came in contact with and she loved being a mother. How appropriate she passed away on Mother's Day, as motherhood was the accomplishment she cherished most! Lois is survived by her husband, Alton Read Jones and daughter Lori Page Hill (Troy), and step-children Michael Jones (Alison), Gary Jones, and Mike Page (Roberta) and fourteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, James Peter and Julia Mae Christensen. Siblings: Ethel Mae Christensen, Lila Rose Christensen (Joseph Clair Orrock, deceased), Ilynn Christensen (Lafey Lavel Bradshaw, deceased), Veone Christensen (Aubra Clark Patterson, deceased), and Marie Christensen. Step Children: Jimmy Jones and Don Jones. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Hooper Stake Center, 5375 South 5900 West, Hooper, Utah. A viewing will be Sunday evening 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Myers Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy, UT and at the Stake Center from 9:30 – 10:40 am prior to services. In lieu of flowers please donate to Mother Without Borders at www.motherswithoutborders.org; an organization Lois came to love after serving the people in Zambia, Africa in the summer of 2011. © Myers Mortuary
