Bernard Lewis Bartek, 73, of Temple, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. led by Gene Engbrock. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 13, 2016, at St. Luke Catholic Church with Rev. James Ekeocha officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Cyclone. Bernard was born in Ratibor, Texas, to the late William and Bertha Bartek. He was a 1960 graduate of Temple High School and married his childhood sweetheart, Genevieve Bruggman, in 1962. After working for Houghton’s Paint for a short time, he moved on to work for and manage the Sherwin Williams location in Temple for 28 years. In 1984, he opened his own business, Bartek’s Paint and Decorating, which he ran until his retirement in 2002. Bernard’s years after retirement were filled with spending time with his wife, attending his grandchildren’s activities, golfing, fishing, and hunting. Bernard was a devoted Dallas Cowboys and Texas A&M Aggie fan and enjoyed following his teams each weekend. Bernard was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Ann Bartek; and brothers, Gary Bartek and Gene Bartek. Survivors include his wife, Gennie; son, Craig Bartek and wife, Kelley, of Cypress TX; daughter, Dana Roach and husband, David, of Belton; grandchildren: Jenna and Kayla Roach, of Belton, and Brett and Kendall Bartek, of Cypress; sisters, Nancy Hubnik, of Cyclone, and Diana Bartek, of Temple; brothers, William Bartek Jr., of McGregor, and James Bartek, of Belton; other relatives and many friends.
