Bio
Darlene Ann Broadwell, age 80, of York, NE, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Lincoln, NE. She was born July 7, 1935 in Ogallala, NE to Earl and Pearl (Powell) Blakeney. Darlene grew up in Stromsburg, NE and following high school graduation, attended Wesleyan in Lincoln. Darlene was united in marriage to Frank Broadwell on April 18, 1959. Two sons, Doug and Dennis, and one daughter, Holly, were born to this union. Darlene worked for the former First National Bank in York, Heritage Realtors in York and Kirkham Michael and Associates. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in York where she taught Sunday school classes for many years. She was also a member of York General Hospital Auxiliary, the York Senior Fun Club, and the Red Hat Society. Darlene enjoyed bowling, golf, tennis and playing cards with friends. She loved traveling, camping trips and was an avid Husker fan. Spending time with her family was her first priority and greatest joy. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Doug Broadwell and his friend Chris Anne Shubert and Dennis Broadwell and his wife Karen; daughter Holly Norquest and her husband Tim; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, one brother and one sister. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating. Inurnment will be in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. There will be no viewing as Darlene chose to be cremated.
