The funeral for Melvin L. (Bud) Buchta, 71, of Leeds was held Mon. at 10 a.m. at the Nelson funeral Home Chapel in Leeds. Interment was in the Leeds Lutheran Cemetery. He died of smoke inhalation as a result of a fire Sept. 16, 1993 at his home in Leeds. Rev. Mark Antal officiated. Music was furnished by Ken & Dorothy Stuberg. Pallbearers were Roy Morkert, Rip Hanson, Erling Axness, Bob McGarvey, Lloyd Himle & Mike Strand. Military rites were accorded by the Leeds American Legion Post 101 & the Robert Tovsrud VFW Post 757 of Harlow. Bud Buchta was born Aug. 28, 1922 on the family farm near York to Frank & Sylvia Garst Buchta. He attended Beaver Township School near York & farmed the family farmstead for a time. He worked for area farmers until his retirement. He served in the US Navy during WWII from Dec. 18, 1943 to June 21, 1945. He was a member of the Leeds American Legion Post 101 & the Robert Tovsrud VFW Post 757 of Harlow. He was preceded in death by his parents & a brother, Ernest.
