Sylvia Ann Hykel was born on March 21, 1940 in Ennis, Texas to Bob L. Slovak and Agnes Krajca Slovak. She died peacefully on April 30, 2016 in Irving Texas. The oldest of three siblings, she grew up on a farm and attended St. John in Ennis, where she graduated high school. She married Tony E. Hykel on April 23, 1960, to whom she was married 56 years. After marriage, she lived at Fort Hood Texas and later Washington DC, where she worked at the Pentagon. She moved to Dallas in 1962 and went to business school, and worked at Magnolia Chemical. She moved to Irving in 1964 and was a charter member of Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church. She went to nursing school in 1972 and worked at Saint Paul Hospital for 11 years. She joined GTE/Verizon in 1984 and retired after 19 years of service. Sylvia was active in her church and was a member of the KJT fraternal organization in Ennis and the Czech Club in Dallas. She enjoyed church, family, friends, and polka dancing. A loving grandmother, she is survived by her husband Tony Hykel; brother Milton Slovak; sister Elaine Pustejovsky; her son Daryl Hykel, and her granddaughter Molly Hykel. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm, on Monday, May 2 at Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home, 606 W. Airport Freeway, Irving, TX, with a Rosary to begin at 6:00 pm. Funeral will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, May 3, at Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church, 2323 Cheyenne, Irving, TX 75062, followed by internment at Oak Grove Cemetery, 1413 E Irving Blvd, Irving, TX. A luncheon reception will be held at Glory House, 109 S Main St. Irving, TX.
