Bio

Violet Irene Sunday September 28, 1925 - April 19, 2016 As you will soon learn by reading this entire obituary, Violet Irene Sunday, had a big family. When her husband, Samuel Sunday lived around the corner from her, she said she looked across the fence, saw him for the first time, and said to herself, “Man, we sure would make pretty babies.” And they did. And those babies made pretty babies and so on. Violet passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016. She leaves behind a family and many friends that adored her and will miss her immensely. One of the things most missed about Violet will be her clever wit and feisty yet loving attitude. She was never one to shy away from telling her offspring how she felt about decisions being made. She provided often humorous advice including “make sure your britches are on tight before you go out.” The wisdom Violet possessed came from years of living a life to the fullest. In addition to raising five children, she drove cars for Hertz and often accompanied her husband on long truck drives across the country. It was actually in a truck ride when they were dating that Sam proposed to Violet. He turned toward her and asked “want to get married?” She whipped her head around, threw her arms in the air and yelled “yes!” Almost wrecking the truck but avoiding doing so, they drove straight to Alabama and made it official. She grew up near the Pearl River in Jackson, MS. Violet was a member of New Life Church of God. She enjoyed bowling, fishing and oil painting. Violet, a woman of impressive intelligence, impeccable taste (her shoe and jewelry collection is the envy of many of her granddaugthers), and sharp humor, will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Especially her life long friends Frances and Billy Bynum who over the years became honorary members of the Sunday family. Violet is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Sunday, her granddaughter, Sabrina Poyner and and her brothers, Carl and Earl Hastings. She is survived by her daughter, Joy; sons, Kenneth (Linda), Ray (Patricia), Samuel Karl (Cindy) and Donald (Annamarie); grandchildren, Scott (Rebecca), Shaney, Robin, Karla, Misty, Teasha, Wade, Kevin, Jeremy, Jamie, Jennifer, Daniel, Jessica, and Kenny; great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Samantha, Kristina, Candice, Kimberly, Kaylynn, Cody, Alexis, Abby, Emily, Brittany, Amber, Tyler, Chase, Taylor, Jesse, Tyler, Kendra, Alexis, Taylor, Alexis, Reagan, Brooklyn, Sami Rae, Jaelynn, Gabriel, Mia, and Rheigan; great-great-grandchildren, Andrew, Lauren, Grayson, Landan, Evelyn, Lilly, Khloe, Samuel, Caden, Rylan, Sutton, Brooklyn, Taylor, Kaleena and Bailey. Pallbearers are Wade Sunday, Kevin Sunday, Scott Poyner, Jeremy Sunday, Daniel Sunday and Kenny Sunday. Viewing will be held Friday, April 22, 2016, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. for family and friends. Funeral service will be Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Warrington Worship Center with Pastor Raymond Sunday officiating. Violet will be laid to rest beside her loving husband, Samuel Sunday at Myrtle Grove Cemetery.
