Bio

Kenneth Vern Aston, age 79, passed away quietly April 27, 2016 at his home in rural Twin Falls County, Idaho. Ken Vern was born April 1, 1937 in Hunter, Utah to Ardith Andreason Aston and Kenneth Park Aston. At about age 5 he got osteomyelitis in his left knee and hip. The effects of this crippled his legs, but not his spirit. Several years and two sisters later, the family moved to a farm on the Idaho Salmon Tract. His mother passed away in 1949 at age 33 and Ken Vern helped with the care of his little sisters. His father married Estella Coon and she accepted the care of the three children and added three more sons to the family. Ken Vern adored his siblings and shared his love of hunting and fishing with them. Ken Vern attended school in Berger, Hollister and Filer. After one semester at University of Idaho, he moved to Salt Lake and began his 15 years of working at Sperry Univac while taking college classes. At Univac, he met Bonnie Lou Dalley. They fell in love and were married March 16, 1968. He soon graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in electrical engineering and continued working at Univac. While Ken and Bonnie lived in the Salt Lake Valley, they were blessed with a daughter, Margaret Emily, and a son, Kenneth Ivan. When his father retired in 1976, Kenneth Vern moved his family to Idaho and took over the farm. Their second son, Eric Edwin, was born in Twin Falls in 1977. Ken Vern farmed as long as he was able. He worked for a year at the Kimberly Research Center. Then he worked as a substitute teacher and took classes at ISU to get a teaching degree. He taught math and physics at Filer High School for one year. Severe rheumatoid arthritis worsened his physical problems in his later years. He endured much pain without complaint. Ken Vern was an excellent husband and father. He taught his children compassion, honesty, problem solving, hard work, confidence, and a love for nature. He loved the desert and mountains and adventure books and especially his family. He will be greatly missed. Kenneth Vern was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His family looks forward to the time they can be sealed to him for time and eternity. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ardith Andreason Aston; father, Kenneth Park Aston; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Dalley Rasmussen and Pat Ball Dalley; and brother-in-law, Ivan Leon Dalley. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Dalley Aston; daughter, Margaret Emily Aston, of South Salt Lake, UT; sons: Kenneth Ivan "KI" (Audra) Aston, and their children: Kiley Fae, Kenneth Kade, Olivia Susannah, and Isaac Gordon Aston, of Oakley, UT; Eric Edwin (Lorraine) Aston, and their children: Samuel Park, Gabriel Robert and Bonnie Lorraine Aston, of Farmington, UT; mother, Estella Coon Aston, of Twin Falls; sisters: Lynda Aston (Edward) Heath, of Amboy, WA, and Kay Louise Aston Locke, of Kearns; brothers: Alfred Earl (Barbara Jane) Aston, of Moscow, Arnold Evan (Phyllis) Aston, of Harvard, and Alan Lee (Dona Kay) Aston, of Twin Falls; several aunts, uncles, siblings-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
