RITA JUNE (BAXTER) HOWELL Rita June Howell, age 87, a resident of Calvin, OK, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, April 27th. Rita, a homemaker and excellent cook was born June 18, 1928, in Wilson Township in Atoka County. She was the eldest child of Harvey Marion Baxter and Johnnie Eunice (Casey) Baxter. Rita attended Wilson Elementary and Wapanucka High School where she loved her teachers and often spoke fondly of her classmates and of the good times they shared. Rita married Loyd Lee (Pete) Howell on December 5, 1947 in Sherman, Texas. Rita and Pete made their home in Ft. Worth, Texas where they raised their four children, until 1975 when they moved back to Oklahoma and the town of Calvin. Rita was preceded in death by her beloved husband Pete on April 18, 2003, with whom she shared 55 happy years of marriage. Rita was a gentle and loving sole who loved flowers, gardening, canning, reading, visiting with her sister Bobbie, and most of all her family. Rita was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she had many friends she loved dearly. Preceding her in death were her husband Loyd (Pete) Howell, her father Harvey Marion Baxter, her mother Johnnie Eunice (Casey) Baxter, and her sister Bobbie Jean (Baxter) Johnson and husband John W. Johnson. Survivors include her sons Terry Lee Howell and wife Mary of Bismarck, Arkansas; Steven Ray Howell of Anchorage, Alaska, Bobby Dean Howell and wife Vicki of Rawlins, Wyoming, and daughter Laura Lynn (Howell) Fent and husband Russell of Calvin, Oklahoma; Granddaughters, Teresa LeAnn Howell of Ft. Worth, TX; Sunny Renee' Howell of Anchorage, AK; grandsons, Michael Glenn Howell of McAlester, OK, Christopher Loyd Howell of Rawlins, WY; great grandson John Michael Howell of Arlington, TX; her brother Marion Ray Baxter and wife Donella of Wapanucka, OK; along with many special nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family be will held from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville. Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Calvin, OK on May 2, 2016 at 11:00AM. Pastor Eddy Mathews will officiate. Interment will follow at the Calvin Cemetery, Calvin, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville, Oklahoma. There will be a reception for family and friends at the First Baptist Church immediately following the services.
