Kathleen Larabee was born Kathleen Marie Polacek, on October 15, 1954 in David City, Nebraska to Jerry and Josephine Polacek. She was the second child of what would later become 14 children. She passed away on April 7, 2016 at the age of 61 years. Kathy grew up on a farm outside of Prague and graduated from Bishop Neumann High School in May 1972. She attended Southeast Community College, in Lincoln, to pursue a degree in Nursing and, in May 1974, Kathy earned her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification through the Nebraska Board of Nursing. On April 4, 1975 she married Rick Larabee. The couple was married for 17 years and divorced in 1992. Kathy had five children; Leland Scott, Andrew Lee, Andrea Marie, Aaron James and Adam Craig. Kathy was baptized on April 3, 1977 at the Green Memorial Alliance Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. Kathy served in the US Navy Ready Reserve Unit from 1986-1994. In 1991, Kathy's unit was activated and ordered to mobilize for assistance in the Gulf War. While on active duty, she served three months at a Fleet Hospital Unit in Bahrain. During her service there, Operation Desert Shield became Operation Desert Storm. Kathy returned home, to Arapahoe, Nebraska and continued to work for the Tri Valley Health Care System. In 2000, Kathy moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and worked at Bryan LGH hospital until she found her dream job at Nebraska Heart Institute Heart Hospital in 2003. During her nursing career, Kathy worked at numerous clinics and hospitals across the state, but she was ecstatic to find her home at Nebraska Heart where she continued her education in pursuit of the title, Registered Nurse(RN). In 2007, Kathy completed the required training and earned her RN certification. Kathy enjoyed her job, spending time with family and friends, attended numerous Bible study groups and events. Kathy volunteered her time to assist as Camp Nurse for her granddaughters' Girl Scout events, worked in the church nursery and volunteered her time with church functions at Calvary Community Church. She enjoyed traveling, especially road trips, and has traveled across the country by vehicle and airplane. Her hobbies include sewing, quilting, arts and craft projects and helping others. Although she enjoyed many different activities, Kathy's favorite activity was always spending time with her grandchildren. Kathy's grandchildren include Chad, Evan and Mya Cogdill, Gage Larabee, Olivia Cogdill, Ethan and Emily Larabee and Bentlie Jo Larabee. She has one great-grandchild; Sadeth Cogdill. Kathy is preceded in death by her parents; Jerry and Josephine Polacek; and her first born child, Leland Scott (Scotty).
